My Own Professional Photoshoot - Astoria Photographer

I have to admit it can be daunting to call up a professional photographer and schedule a photo shoot for yourself. You really can’t tell your clients how they might feel during a photo session if you don’t experience it yourself, am I right? I booked a photo session with my friend and a fellow professional photographer to not only get amazing headshots but to find out what it’s like to sit in front of someone else’s camera.

Jen and I have very similar styles of photography so I knew that my images would be cohesive to my brand which is important when you are branding your business. Why do I use the word “professional?” You want to make sure the person you are paying has been trained, insured, and has exceptional customer service. I know the number of hours that it takes to produce top-quality images.

I’m not much of a fashionista myself so planning my wardrobe was not the easiest part of the whole experience. I did run to the store an hour before the session to pick up one more blouse— that I didn’t wear and some lip gloss again did not need it. 

Jamie was my stylist and she did a wonderful job of making me feel comfortable and listening to my ideas and concerns about my sensitivity to makeup and my ideas on hairstyling. Of course, that is their job to make you feel beautiful and relaxed.

My daughter came with me to help assist and she steamed some of the clothing that I was going to be using. I ended up wearing something that Jen had and sometimes that happens when ideas begin to manifest when the photo session is in full swing.

Sitting in front of the camera was fun. I forgot I was a photographer and let Jen and her assistant take over and pose me. 

We laughed a lot and I really enjoyed seeing some of her shots on the back of the camera. 

When I received the images I was blown away with how beautiful they were. Having your photos taken by a professional photographer is not money wasted it is an investment. You know the lighting is perfect, posing is spot on for your body type. 

I rank this as one of the best experiences I have had. I love to feel pampered and to look beautiful for at least one day. I now have the images to keep forever.
